Urban Shopping Mall
100,000 square feet

A late 1930's two story department store in downtown Miami was remodeled into a five story urban shopping mall. The floors of the central structural bay were removed from ground level through roof, with the elaborate floor trusses left exposed in the glass-vaulted atrium. The trusses act as a floating decorative screens within the five story space. The elevators, escalators and suspended bridges were placed in the atrium. The linear atrium terminates at a glass-enclosed restaurant which projects over the sidewalk on Flagler Street and the mezzanine level food court.
